The NCAA announced this week that Oregon's program is being investigated for dealings with an individual who seems to have assisted them with the recruitment of certain players (aka a scouting service). Auburn is already being investigated for doing the same thing, with the players in question reportedly being flush with cash. With SI's current cover story dealing with the large number of football players who had been arrested during or prior to their recruitment by the preseason top 25, and spring practice cannot begin soon enough.
The rules have to be tightened and the NCAA has to act quickly and with consistency. More on this to follow.

  1. I don't see any other way to contact you, so I will use this comments section to give you some feedback on your excellent college football encyclopedia.

Page 929-Brigham Young (BYU) has 17 bowl losses all-time, not 16.

Page 933-BYU beat New Mexico 65-0 in 1988, not 65-27. The next week BYU played San Diego State and lost 27-15.

Page 443 (1984)-BYU TE David Mills should be listed in the receiving leaders. He had 60 receptions for 1,023 yards and 7 TDs.

Page 505 (1990)-BYU TE Chris Smith should be listed in the receiving leaders. He had 68 receptions for 1,156 yards and 2 TDs.

Page 633 (1998)-BYU running back Ronney Jenkins should be listed in the rushing leaders. He had 252 rushes for 1,307 yards and 13 TDs.

Page 772 (2007)-UCLA played BYU (11-2) in the Las Vegas Bowl, not Utah as indicated in the 2007 season intro. summary.

Page 775 (2007)-Arizona scored 7 points against BYU, not 3.

Page 795 (2007)-BYU quarterback Max Hall should be included in the passing leaders. He was 298-496, 3848 yards, 26 TD, 12 Int.

Page 802 (2008)-Washington's record was 0-2, not 1-1 after playing BYU on 9/6/08.

1974-BYU quarterback Gary Shiede should be included in the passing leaders. He was 181-300, 2174 yards, 23 TD, 19 Int.

2005-BYU quarterback John Beck should be included in the passing leaders. He was 331-513, 3709 yards, 27 TD, 13 Int.

2001-There is no bowl game summary for the Liberty Bowl (Louisville 28, BYU 10). This bowl game is included every other year, but omitted in 2001.

1999-In the beginning secition for each season, normally when a new conference is formed that is given special mention as a bullet point. No mention was made that the MWC was created this year by BYU, Utah, Wyoming, Colorado State, San Diego State, UNLV, Air Force, and New Mexico.

2008-The beginning general information section does not include the longest winning streaks entering the season, which is a feature for every other season. BYU entered the 2008 season with the nation's longest win streak (10 games).

One final note. I find it incredible that you do not have a "Personalties" for former BYU Head coach LaVell Edwards. His role in the evolution and popularity of the passing game is key to college football. He is also very well known, liked, and respected in the sport. He retired in 2000, but he is still honored regularly with awards for his achievements.

Thank you for your attention to these issues. I know a factually correct book is very important to you, but with a work this size some omissions are inevitable.
